GRADY, Ark. (AP) - Authorities are investigating the death of an inmate.

The Arkansas Department of Correction says prisoner Jody Cook was observed acting abnormally late Sunday in his barrack at the Varner Unit in Grady.

Cook was sent to the unit’s infirmary and then taken to a hospital. Cook was pronounced dead Monday around 7:30 a.m.

The Arkansas State Police will investigate the incident.

Correction records show that Cook was serving a sentence for rape.
