NEW YORK (AP) - The Fire Department of New York says three people have been injured, one seriously, in a smoky fire in Lower Manhattan.

The fire broke out around 10:15 a.m. Tuesday in a 12th floor machinery room in a skyscraper at 30 Broad St., near Exchange Place.

The Health Department was warning people in the area to avoid smoke exposure.

The patient who was seriously injured suffered burns.

The Fire Department said it had knocked down a lot of the fire by 11 a.m. It had 26 units and 84 firefighters at the scene.
