MCDONOUGH, N.Y. (AP) - Authorities say four people escaped with minor injuries when their small plane crashed into trees in a rural central New York town.

Officials say the Cessna crashed around 3:30 p.m. Monday into the tops of trees behind a Buddhist retreat in the Chenango County of McDonough, 40 miles southeast of Syracuse.

The plane caught fire after crashing but the pilot and three passengers only suffered minor injuries. At least three of them were treated at a Binghamton-area hospital.

Officials say the group was traveling from Sidney in neighboring Delaware County to the Chenango County town of Greene when the plane went down a few miles north of its destination.

The cause of the crash is being investigated.
