DALLAS (AP) - A Dallas man has been acquitted in the 2014 fatal shooting of a woman during a drug-related robbery at a motel that left her boyfriend critically wounded.

Romon Mitchell Jr. was found not guilty of capital murder on Monday.

The Dallas Morning News (https://bit.ly/2axl4ME ) reports 25-year-old Elena Shea was killed and 41-year-old Christopher Whitley was wounded in the July 2014 gunfire.

Whitley identified 24-year-old Mitchell as the gunman and testified that the two were friends and sold drugs together. The victim said Mitchell was upset that Whitley tried to bring a relative into the operation.

Dallas police say Shea and Whitley were ambushed when both returned to their motel room. Whitley testified that he handed over about $2,200 to Mitchell.

Jurors deliberated since last Thursday. Mitchell did not testify.
