PALATINE, Ill. (AP) - A suburban Chicago family is suing an animal boarding facility over the loss of their German shepherd-beagle mix.

The Caponi family of Palatine says Baxter & Beasley was negligent in losing the dog named Digger while they vacationed at Disneyland in August 2015 and impeded efforts to find him.

The Daily Herald in Arlington Heights reports (https://bit.ly/2b0WZKw) the lawsuit claims the facility removed fliers and signs posted in the community last year regarding Digger’s disappearance, decreasing chances he’d be found.

The dog’s owner, Todd Caponi, has expressed doubts about Baxter & Beasley’s explanation that Digger escaped around by scaling the facility’s 8-foot fence. He contends in the lawsuit his family has suffered injuries of “a personal and pecuniary nature.”

Representatives of Baxter & Beasley declined to comment on the lawsuit filed in Cook County court.
