TUPELO, Miss. (AP) - Rather than a live auction, the Lee County tax sale will be conducted online this year.

During a meeting last week, the Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal report (https://bit.ly/2bgbw5F) the Lee County Board of Supervisors approved the switch to an online auction.

New legislation enacted this year by state lawmakers allowed counties to implement the online format.

Supervisors approved GovEase, a Jackson-based company, to provide an online portal through which the online tax sale will be conducted.

The sale is scheduled for Aug. 29.

Tax Collector Leroy Belk says the county won’t pay anything for the portal or for the company’s services. Instead, user fees will generate the company’s income.
