ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) - The executive director of the Maryland Republican Party has been chosen to fill an open seat in the House of Delegates.

The Baltimore County Republican State Central Committee forwarded Joe Cluster’s name to Republican Gov. Larry Hogan, who will officially make the appointment.

Al Mendelsohn, the chairman of the central committee, says the committee voted for Cluster on Monday night for the seat in District 8 in Baltimore County, just outside the city of Baltimore.

He will fill the vacancy created by his father, John Cluster, who was appointed by Hogan to be a member of the state Parole Commission.

Mendelsohn says Joe Cluster’s name was the only one forwarded by the committee to the governor for consideration.
