DENMARK, S.C. (AP) - The new president of Voorhees College says increasing enrollment at the historically black college in Bamberg County is a top priority.

The Times and Democrat of Orangeburg reports (https://bit.ly/2aZ7uxN ) that Franklin Evans was officially introduced as the new president of the college in Denmark on Monday.

The enrollment at the private college affiliated with the Episcopal Church is currently about 400 students and Evans wants to increase that to more than 700. The highest enrollment in college history was 700 students in 2010.

During the past year Evans was interim president at South Carolina State University, helping the university surpass its enrollment goal.

Evans says moving Voorhees forward will require a team that includes alumni, the church, public schools and businesses
