NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (AP) - Police say two teens and a child were injured in two shootings a few blocks apart in Newport News.

Police said in a statement that officers were called to 36th Street around 6:15 p.m. Monday and found a 16-year-old boy with a gunshot wound to his left arm. Police say a passing Jeep stopped and a passenger fired, striking the teen once as he sat on a porch. He was taken to a hospital with a wound that was not considered life-threatening.

About an hour later, police say officers responding to a report of shots fired two blocks away found a 10-year-old girl and 14-year-old boy wounded. Police say each child was struck in one foot. Both were taken to a hospital with injuries that weren’t thought to be life-threatening.
