BARNEGAT, N.J. (AP) - Authorities are searching for the driver who they say fatally struck a 61-year-old woman in southern New Jersey and fled the scene.

Police say the crash occurred around 7:50 a.m. Monday as the woman was walking along a Barnegat street. The Barnegat woman was later pronounced dead at a hospital.

Authorities didn’t immediately identify the victim.

Police say debris at the scene indicates the vehicle was either a 1999-2002 Chevrolet Silverado or a 2000-2006 Chevrolet Tahoe or Suburban. They say there’s also damage to the front of the vehicle on its right side.
