ORANGEVILLE, Utah (AP) - Authorities say a 55-year-old Utah man who had been considered a person of interest in his wife’s death and his own wounding last month at a home in Orangeville has been found dead.

Emery County sheriff’s officials say it appears that Richard Maxwell shot himself dead Monday at an Orangeville home where he’d been staying following his release from a hospital last week.

Maxwell was identified as the only person of interest in the death of 47-year-old Kristi Maxwell, whose body was found July 17 in the couple’s Orangeville home.

A sheriff’s spokeswoman says deputies responding to a relative’s request to check on Richard Maxwell on Monday found his body.

Officials haven’t said why Richard Maxwell wasn’t taken into custody in the investigation of his wife’s death.
