SANDWICH, N.H. (AP) - New Hampshire state police say a Tamworth man died after speeding away from officers and crashing into a tree in Sandwich.

Police say the incident started around 10:40 p.m. Monday when a trooper tried to stop a vehicle on Route 25 in Tamworth. The car sped away, turning onto Route 113 and heading for neighboring Sandwich.

After the officer stopped his pursuit, the car went off the road and struck a tree.

Nineteen-year-old Jake Davison of Tamworth died at the scene.
