LAS VEGAS (AP) - A former Las Vegas junior high school math teacher has been sentenced to 28 months to six years in state prison for engaging in sexual activity with a 14-year-old student.

The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports (https://bit.ly/2gPX6L3) that 37-year-old Nicole Wilfinger wept throughout her sentencing Wednesday in Clark County District Court, and apologized for what she called a lapse in judgment.

Wilfinger pleaded guilty in August to statutory sexual seduction and sexual conduct between a school employee and pupil.

Police say she kept a journal on her cellphone of her relationship history with the student, including a list of first-time occurrences.

Wilfinger and the teenager both told police they had sex three times.

Investigators reported recovering 156 text messages and 325 images that had been deleted from Wilfinger’s phone.
