NEW BRITAIN, Conn. (AP) - A New Britain man has been sentenced to 25 years in prison for fatally stabbing the owner of a Bristol beauty salon.

The New Britain Herald (https://bit.ly/2gbNLxb ) reports that 48-year-old Darren Davis was sentenced Wednesday for the 2014 slaying of Veronica Skinzera.

Davis reached a plea deal with prosecutors under the Alford doctrine, meaning while not admitting guilt, he acknowledges there’s enough evidence for a conviction.

The 48-year-old Skinzera was found stabbed in Davis’ apartment.

Friends told police they met at church. They said Davis offered to take her in because she was addicted to crack cocaine and he was in recovery.

Police had been called to Davis’ apartment four times for domestic disputes in the weeks before her slaying.
