SIERRA VISTA, Ariz. (AP) - Authorities say a brush fire near Carr Canyon south of Sierra Vista is human-caused and under investigation.

The fire was declared 50 percent contained Sunday afternoon at 70 acres.

Cochise County Sheriff’s officials say the fire was reported about 6:45 p.m. Saturday.

Residents originally were told to be ready to evacuate if necessary as firefighters from nearly half a dozen agencies responded to the scene.

But crews were able to start buffer fires to establish space between the fire and homes.

Because of the fire’s location on a ridgeline between Carr and Ramsey Canyon, authorities don’t expect the fire to grow substantially.

Coronado National Forest officials say crews are mopping up and patrolling the fire’s perimeter to put out any hot spots.

However, access to the canyon remains restricted.
