LAS VEGAS (AP) - One person is dead after a fiery crash over the weekend that shut down highway traffic in both directions in rural southern Nevada.

The Nevada Highway Patrol says the crash happened at about 3:30 p.m. on Sunday on U.S. 95 in Nye County. Authorities say a southbound car crossed in front of a northbound semi-truck that was hauling wood.

Trooper Jason Buratczuk says the truck turned over and caught fire when the gas tank was breached. The driver was taken to a hospital in Pahrump with injuries that weren’t considered life-threatening.

The driver of the car was pronounced dead at the scene.

All lanes of the highway were shut down near Mercury while crews cleaned up spilled fuel. Authorities announced hours later than the road was reopened.
