LOS ANGELES (AP) - Los Angeles police say officers shot and wounded a suspect after they were fired upon while responding to a party in South Los Angeles.

Sgt. James Linder says suspected gang members began running as officers approached a house late Sunday.

Linder says someone began shooting and officers returned fire, striking a suspect in the right shoulder. The suspect’s condition was not available early Monday.

City News Service reports several people were detained and weapons were recovered.

Several streets were shut down for hours during the investigation.

No officers were injured.
