LAS CRUCES, N.M. (AP) - Authorities say a man died in an industrial accident Saturday at a custom automobile shop in Las Cruces.

The Dona Ana County sheriff’s detectives say Joseph Suder was reportedly using ether to mount a large tire onto a 400-pound rim when an explosion happened.

The 30-year-old Suder was pronounced dead at the scene. His body was taken to the state Office of the Medical Examiner in Albuquerque for an autopsy.

A California native, Suder once played football for New Mexico State University.

In 2008, he was a member of the offensive line that helped the Aggies to a No. 9 national ranking in passing offense. He also played a season at Arizona Western College before being signed by New Mexico State.
