WILMINGTON, Del. (AP) - Wilmington Police have arrested a suspect in the death of man found fatally stabbed on a busy downtown street.

Authorities say 27-year-old Chaz Collazo of Chester, Pennsylvania, is charged with first-degree murder and possession of a deadly weapon while committing a felony. Collazo is being held at the Howard Young Correctional Facility in lieu of $1.5 million cash bail.

Police were flagged down Wednesday night at Ninth and Market streets and found 35-year-old Melvin J. Smith bleeding heavily from a stab wound to his neck. Smith died at a local hospital.

Investigators say Smith died after an altercation inside a sport utility vehicle that began at an unknown location.

In seeking information from the public last week, police released surveillance camera footage of an SUV leaving the scene.
