PHOENIX (AP) - A Phoenix man is jailed on $50,000 bond after being accused of leaving the scene of fatal accident last week.

Phoenix police say 51-year-old Modesto Burgos-Sandoval allegedly was involved in a hit-and-run accident early Friday.

He didn’t have a lawyer or interpreter as of Monday.

Police say the vehicle that hit the pedestrian used the continuous left-turn lane to try to pass two vehicles.

The pedestrian who was struck appeared to be waiting in the turn lane for cars to pass to finish crossing the street.

Police say the victim has yet to be identified.

Detectives conducted a records check and found Burgos-Sandoval to be the registered owner of the vehicle involved.

When police arrived at his house, they say he was standing near his damaged vehicle.
