ATLANTA (AP) - Atlanta United has picked three defenders and two goalkeepers in the MLS expansion draft.

The United selected defender Donny Toia of the Montreal Impact in the opening round of Tuesday’s draft, followed by defender Zach Loyd of FC Dallas, goalkeeper Clint Irwin of Toronto FC, defender Mikey Ambrose of Orlando City and goalkeeper Alec Kann of Sporting Kansas City.

Atlanta alternated picks with the other expansion team that will begin play next season, Minnesota United. The new franchises selected from players made available by the league’s other 20 teams, who were each allowed to protect 11 players.
