WASHINGTON (AP) - A hotel in downtown Washington was briefly evacuated after a fire broke out in the basement.

The fire broke out early Tuesday at the Capital Hilton in northwest Washington, forcing guests and staffers out into the cold for about a half hour.

Fire officials tweeted that a fire in the laundry room in the hotel’s basement activated the hotel’s sprinkler system and was knocked down. No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
