CASPER, Wyo. (AP) - A Casper family whose three dogs were killed in snares has filed a lawsuit claiming the traps were illegal and that state game officials spread incorrect information about the incident.

The Cardenas family’s three St. Bernards, named Jax, Brooklyn and Barkley, were all killed by snares on state land at the base of Casper Mountain in the fall of 2014.

The family has filed a lawsuit against the Game and Parks Commission, the Game and Parks Department, department spokeswoman Janet Milek, Casper Region Wildlife Supervisor Brian Olsen and the trapper, who has not yet been named. The lawsuit is seeking a court order to disclose the identity of the trapper to recover damages for property losses and emotional injuries.

The lawsuit also seeks to stop further trapping on state lands.
