BALTIMORE (AP) - One person has been found dead inside a home after a fire broke out in Baltimore.

Fire Chief Roman Clark says firefighters were called to the burning residence near Pimlico Race Course on Monday afternoon.

Officials say firefighters discovered a man in his 50s dead. It wasn’t immediately clear if the man died because of the fire or from other causes.

Clark says a woman was also inside the home but escaped the fire. She was hospitalized. There was no immediate word on her condition.

Fire officials are continuing to investigate the cause of the blaze.

Excluding this death, fire officials say 11 people have died in fires in the city so far this year. Five of those deaths have been reported in recent days.
