ST. ALBANS, Vt. (AP) - Police say a Vermont driver has pleaded not guilty to charges of attempted murder and aggravated assault after police said he hit a woman he’d once been romantically involved with when he saw her talking to another man.

Chad Ely, of St. Albans, was in court Monday. He’s being held without bail.

Police say the 28-year-old Ely jumped the curb and struck some people with his car early Sunday. WCAX-TV reports (https://bit.ly/2gwbPuc) one witness said that they saw Ely’s ex-girlfriend land on the top of his car, and then get run over again. The woman was hospitalized with a severe head injury; she has since been released. Two men were only slightly injured.
