NEW YORK (AP) - Police have charged a 20-year-old New York man after they say he evaded officers during a traffic stop in Brooklyn and caused a multi-vehicle crash that injured seven people.

Diego Williams was charged Monday with reckless endangerment, fleeing an officer and several additional motor vehicle and traffic violations stemming from the mayhem he allegedly caused in East Flatbush.

The incident began when Williams was pulled over just after 4:30 p.m. for a moving violation. After the officers got out of their car, police say Williams took off in his black BMW.

Officers pursued Williams, who crashed through a police cruiser attempting to block his path on Kings Highway. Police say Williams then crashed into two more cars, which were sent hurtling into more vehicles.

One victim was seriously injured.

It couldn’t be determined if Williams has a lawyer yet.
