LATHAM, N.Y. (AP) - The New York National Guard plans a cake-cutting ceremony to mark the 380th birthday of the National Guard.

The event Tuesday afternoon at the state Division of Military and Naval Affairs headquarters in Latham will also include a symbolic re-enlistment ceremony for new members of the New York Army and Air National Guard.

The traditional military cake will be cut by the youngest and oldest National Guard members present - 17-year-old Private Cameron Thompson and 59-year-old Chief Warrant Officer Robert Wold.

The National Guard traces its birthday to Dec. 13, 1636 when the General Court of the Massachusetts Bay Colony passed a law establishing formal militia companies consisting of all adult males older than 16.
