BOSTON (AP) - A 25-year-old man has been found guilty in the 2012 stabbing death of a man whose body was found in a Boston alley.

The Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office says a jury on Tuesday convicted Cristian Santa of voluntary manslaughter. Santa, of Revere, Massachusetts, was initially charged with first-degree murder.

Prosecutors say Santa fatally stabbed 50-year-old John Barrientos in May 2012 after the two were drinking at the East Boston building where Barrientos lived. Authorities say Barrientos was killed in the building’s basement and his body was dragged outside to an alley.

At the time, authorities called it one of the “grisliest crime scenes” veteran investigators had seen.

Santa’s defense lawyer did not immediately return a call seeking comment. He has previously said Santa left Barrientos’ apartment before the stabbing.
