NATALBANY, La. (AP) - Louisiana state troopers are investigating the death of two people in a passenger car that was hit by a passenger train in Tangipahoa (TAN’-jih-pah-HO’-ah) Parish.

Trooper Dustin Dwight says witnesses told investigators Tuesday’s crash happened after the car passed one stopped vehicle as the train approached - and then went around a safety crossing arm blocking the track.

Dwight says both occupants are believed to have died on impact.

None of the 68 passengers on the Amtrak train was hurt. The accident happened shortly after 2 p.m. at a crossing on Louisiana Highway 1064 in Natalbany (nah-TALL’-bah-nee).

The names of the two people killed have not been released.
