SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - A new population study says Utah’s fastest-growing areas are in the “ring counties” around Salt Lake City and Provo.

That includes Wasatch, Morgan, Juab and Tooele counties.

The report by the University of Utah’s Kem C. Gardner Policy Institute says the state’s population grew by more than 57,000 people between July 2015 and July 2016 for a net growth rate of 1.9 percent.

The Deseret News reports (https://tinyurl.com/zvovehw) that Utah County has surpassed Salt Lake County in population growth for the third year in a row.

Utah County saw a net gain of 17,668 residents - the biggest increase in the state.

Salt Lake County was second with a net gain of 14,223.
