WASHINGTON (AP) - Officials at Dulles International Airport stopped a Fredericksburg, Virginia woman from boarding an international flight after she was caught with a loaded handgun in her carry-on bag.

Officials say the woman entered a checkpoint Friday and put her carry-on items on a conveyor belt when a Transportation Security Administration officer discovered the .380 caliber semi-automatic handgun, loaded with six bullets.

The woman, who was ticketed to fly to Dublin, Ireland, had the gun confiscated and was issued a summons by the Metropolitan Airports Authority police.

She told officials she had borrowed her son’s carry-on bag and didn’t know a gun was in it.

Travelers are allowed to carry firearms only if they’re packed in checked baggage and separate from ammunition.
