DAVENPORT, Iowa (AP) - Two cats are recovering after being found in an ice-covered pet carrier outside a Davenport church.

The Quad-City Times reports (https://bit.ly/2hl1aGF ) the cats were brought to King’s Harvest Pet Rescue on Tuesday.

Shelter director Terri Gleize says a woman walking past Newcomb Presbyterian Church noticed the pet carrier sitting next to the trash.

Gleize says the pet carrier had an inch of ice on it when the cats arrived. The National Weather Service says the temperature started at a low of 9 degrees Tuesday before rising into the low teens.

The cats were safe and put for adoption after they warmed up.
