COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - Corrections officials in South Carolina say two doctors have been attacked at a psychiatric hospital at a Columbia prison.

The Department of Corrections told local media outlets that the attack occurred Monday at Kirkland Correctional Institution.

Corrections Department spokeswoman Sommer Sharpe said the attack at Gilliam Psychiatric Hospital in the prison involved an inmate and two doctors from an outside medical practice.

Sharpe says the doctors were treated at the scene by medical personnel.

No other details were immediately available.

There is no word on who the inmate was and what charges might be filed.

Kirkland is a maximum-security prison.
