FARMVILLE, Va. (AP) - Darrien Allen scored 24 points on 8-for-12 shooting and Khris Lane scored 12 and gathered 11 rebounds as Longwood beat Division III Averett 86-67 on Wednesday night.

Longwood (3-6) shot 34 for 55 (61.8 percent) to Averett’s 24 for 67 (35.8) from the floor. Isaiah Walton added 17 points and JaShaun Smith and Chris Shields each added 10 points for the Lancers.

Taj Thompson made a pair of free throws and James Contreras Jr.’s layup brought the Cougars to within 77-67 but they couldn’t get closer. Longwood maintained a double-digit lead for most of the game.

Allen’s 3 in the first half gave Longwood a 23-11 lead with 12:44 to play before halftime. Darin Ketner later buried a 3 for Averett reducing the deficit to 32-29 but the Lancers responded with 10-3 run to close the half with a 12-point lead.

Longwood leads the all-time matchup between the teams with a 7-5 edge.
