BOULDER, Colo. (AP) - Boulder County has approved another extension of its moratorium on new oil and gas development.

The Daily Camera reports (https://bit.ly/2gz1Ior ) that county commissioners decided Tuesday to extend their latest moratorium on accepting and processing new oil and gas development applications until May 1. The existing ban on drilling operations that was approved last month had been set to expire Jan. 31.

Kim Sanchez with the county Land Use Department says the new extension will provide time for commissioners to complete research, draft regulations and implement a plan for new oil and gas development rules. Those steps need to be taken before the county can accept and process new applications for drilling oil and gas wells.
