CASPER, Wyo. (AP) - A 19-year-old Shoshoni man has been sentenced to two to six years in prison for impregnating a 12-year-old girl.

Gage Markgraf had earlier pleaded guilty to third-degree sexual abuse of a minor as part of a plea agreement.

Before he was sentenced, Markgraf apologized and said he made a bad decision when he was 17. He was recommended for placement in the boot camp program, after which he could seek a sentence review.

The investigation began when the Wyoming Department of Family Services reported that a girl was pregnant and she said Markgraf was the father. The girl said Markgraf knew she was 12.

Prosecutors recommended a prison sentence of seven to 10 years while Markgraf’s attorney sought a probationary sentence, in part because Markgraf is the sole provider for his mother and sister.
