CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) - The West Virginia Board of Medicine will have a new executive director starting Jan. 23.

He is Mark A. Spangler of Lewisburg. He succeeds Robert C. Knittle, who is retiring Dec. 31 after 11 years as executive director.

Spangler is a licensed professional counselor and social workers. He has been executive director, chief executive officer and treasurer at Davis-Stuart Inc. in Lewisburg since 1999. Davis-Stuart provides therapeutic residential care for youths.

The Board of Medicine issues licenses to practice medicine, surgery and podiatry and to practice as a physician assistant for a medical doctor in West Virginia. The board also is the regulatory and disciplinary body for medical doctors, podiatrists and physician assistants.
