WHITE RIVER JUNCTION, Vt. (AP) - A log truck driver has pleaded guilty in an Interstate 91 crash in Vermont that killed a Florida man last year.

The Valley News reports (https://bit.ly/2hMzUh9 ) 25-year-old Mason Morissette, of Woodstock, Maine, pleaded guilty last week to negligent operation of a motor vehicle. He received a suspended two- to 12-month sentence and was placed on probation for two years.

Prosecutors dismissed a more serious felony charge he faced in the August 2015 crash.

Police said 54-year-old David Stefanik, of Shalimar, Florida, pulled his truck into a breakdown lane in Norwich because he had a flat tire. Police said Morissette sideswiped the truck, killing Stefanik.

Police alleged in an affidavit that Morissette was texting before the crash.

Prosecutors say the state found that both Morissette and the victim were at fault.
