TWIN FALLS, Idaho (AP) - Police say a suspect at the Twin Falls County Jail climbed out of his cell and took an inmate hostage with a piece of broken mirror.

Cody William James Meade, 26, has been charged with another batch of felony charges in connection to the jail incident last week, The Times-News reported (https://bit.ly/2gL3shF).

Meade was arrested in May on suspicion of robbing a gas station at gunpoint and on Dec. 5 he was arraigned on two additional charges for allegedly spitting on detention deputies at the jail.

After his arraignment on Dec. 5, Meade is accused of breaking a window above the door of his cell and climbing out. When deputies arrived in the area, they say Meade picked of a piece of the broken mirror frame and held it to the neck of another inmate.

According to court documents, deputies yelled for Meade to stop and Meade dared the deputies to open the door. Control-center staff did open the sliding door between the deputies and Meade and deputies approached. After a brief standoff Meade removed the mirror shard from the other inmate’s neck and deputies were able to rush in and restrain him.

The other inmate was unharmed in the incident.

In all, Meade now faces seven felonies, five of which were gained due to alleged incidents while in custody. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing for the new charges Dec. 23, and is set for a hearing in the robbery case Monday.
