MONTEREY PARK, Calif. (AP) - Los Angeles County authorities say two firefighters were injured while battling a huge blaze at a Monterey Park strip mall that forced the evacuation of an apartment building.

The Monterey Park Fire Department says the large structure’s roof collapsed and it took crews more than three hours to douse the flames, which were reported around 1:30 a.m. Thursday.

KABC-TV reports two firefighters suffered minor injuries.

About 40 people who were evacuated were allowed to return home shortly before 5 a.m.

At least ten businesses were destroyed. Several streets in the area are closed indefinitely.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
