GREENVILLE, N.C. (AP) - Joe Chealey scored 14 points and had six rebounds and Jarrell Brantley added 11 points and eight boards as College of Charleston beat East Carolina 53-35 on Thursday night.

The two teams combined to shoot 31 for 107 from the floor (29 percent). Charleston (8-3) was 20 for 60 and East Carolina (7-4) was 11 for 47.

A free throw by the Pirates’ Kentrell Barkley with almost three minutes gone by was the first basket of the game. Andre Washington’s jumper almost a minute later gave East Carolina its last lead at 3-2.

Grant Riller’s jumper with 3:55 before halftime finished a 14-3 run for the Cougars giving them a 17-5 lead. Charleston led 23-13 at the half.

Jeremy Sheppard led East Carolina with 11 points, four rebounds and four assists, Washington had 12 boards and 10 points and Caleb White added 10 points.
