HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) - Connecticut’s health insurance marketplace is extending its deadline for people to sign up for coverage that will begin January 1, 2017.

Access Health CT announced Thursday the deadline is being moved to Saturday, Dec. 17 at midnight.

Access Health CT CEO Jim Wadleigh (Wahd-LEE’) says the high demand for coverage drove the decision to extend the deadline. People originally had until midnight on Thursday to sign up for coverage starting January 1st.

Over the past seven days, call volume to Access Health CT has increased 22 percent, compared to the same time period last year. Online traffic is up 30 percent.

Access Health is urging customers to prepare as much as possible before enrolling, including gathering key documents such as their most recent tax return and Social Security number.
