BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) - Two drivers have been sentenced to prison for taking part in a drag race that ended with a fatal crash.

Kody Schroeder was sentenced in state Supreme Court in Buffalo Wednesday to 2 1/3 to 7 years in prison. The 20-year-old pleaded guilty in October to manslaughter, vehicular manslaughter and vehicular assault for the crash that killed his 28-year-old passenger, Chauncey Kloiber, in April.

Authorities say Schroeder and 18-year-old Mercedes Castillo of Holland were racing along a street in rural Colden, south of Buffalo, when Schroeder’s vehicle crashed into the back of a pickup truck that was turning into a driveway. Schroeder was impaired by marijuana at the time.

Castillo was sentenced as a youthful offender to six months in jail. She pleaded guilty to criminally negligent homicide and assault.
