JACKSONVILLE, N.C. (AP) - Authorities in Jacksonville say a former high school athletic director and teacher is accused of having sex with a student.

Jacksonville police told local media outlets that 29-year-old Brendan Kennedy faces six counts of indecent liberties with a student and four counts of sexual acts with a student. Police said they had been investigating Kennedy for several weeks.

Warrants say the offenses involved a girl and happened in October and November. The warrants did not say whether the sex acts occurred on school property.

Onslow County Schools says Kennedy resigned on Dec. 2. He was a career and technical education business teacher and athletic director at Northside High School.

Kennedy is being held on a $20,000 secured bond. It’s not known if he has an attorney.
