GENOA, Italy (AP) - Genoa ended Fiorentina’s winning run with a 1-0 victory in the remaining hour of their Serie A match on Thursday.

The game at Genoa was suspended after 27 minutes on Sep. 11 at 0-0 because of heavy rain.

Under Serie A rules, it resumed where it left off, with a goal kick from Genoa goalkeeper Mattia Perin.

Genoa took the lead in the 37th minute when Nikola Ninkovic crossed from the left for Darko Lazovic to volley into the roof of the net.

It was the Serbia midfielder’s first goal for the club.

“We wanted to start strongly … we did so and luckily we also scored,” Genoa coach Ivan Juric said. “We did a bit less in the second half, but without really risking too much.”

Fiorentina’s best chance came just before the hour mark when Mauro Zarate went on a run and cut inside but his powerful effort crashed off the crossbar.

“We tried to win, but we made mistakes in several situations and because of that we couldn’t impose our game,” Fiorentina coach Paulo Sousa said. “It was above all our mistaken approach in determining the pace of the match … In the second half we pushed, we tried to come back but unfortunately we didn’t succeed.”

Genoa moved 10th, three points below seventh-placed Fiorentina.

Fiorentina, which had won its previous three matches in all competitions, faces Lazio and Napoli in its final two matches of the year.

Genoa had only won one of its previous six league matches - a shock 3-1 victory over Juventus.
