WILDWOOD, N.J. (AP) - Firefighters had to rescue a house-lifting worker after he was sent into frigid water when part of a waterfront home collapsed on the Jersey shore.
Fire crews responded to the Wildwood residence around 11:17 a.m. Tuesday following reports that part of the house had capsized.
A beam from the home struck a worker in the head, sending him into the shallow water below. The man was trapped underwater for about 15 minutes by a chain wrapped around his leg.
Firefighters used bolt cutters to free the man, who was airlifted to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center. His current condition is unknown.
The Press of Atlantic City reports the incident occurred during the worker’s first week on the job with SJ Hauck Movers LLC.
The extent of the home’s damage is unclear.
