NEWARK, N.J. (AP) - Jurors have found a man guilty of shooting a Newark police officer during an armed robbery.

The panel convicted 30-year-old Donald Easterling of aggravated assault and other charges. He faces up to life in prison when he’s sentenced in January.

Prosecutors say Officer Dennis Dominguez responded as a backup officer to a robbery at the 99 Cent Zone store in July 2014. Authorities say Easterling shot the 19-year veteran in the knee, ending his career.

Another officer wounded Easterling when he pointed his weapon at the officer.
