NEW YORK (AP) - A foreman blamed for the death of a Manhattan construction worker will spend one to three years in prison.

District Attorney Cyrus R. Vance Jr. announced the sentencing of Wilmer Cueva on Thursday.

The worker, 22-year-old Carlos Moncayo, was crushed in a trench collapse in April.

Authorities said an inspector had warned Cueva about safety concerns but the digging was allowed to continue.

Cueva was convicted in November of criminally negligent homicide.

Vance encourages construction workers to contact his office with anonymous reports about unsafe work conditions.
