HELENA, Mont. (AP) - Some Montana high schools are postponing or canceling weekend extracurricular activities due to the snow and bitter cold in the forecast.

Billings’ public schools and Billings Central announced Thursday that they would be cancelling all weekend extracurricular activities, including a regional speech and debate meet at Billings Senior High. Superintendent Terry Bouck said participants will be notified if games are re-scheduled.

Helena High said its boys’ and girls’ basketball games against C.M. Russell on Thursday would be postponed due to the weather.

Much of central and southern Montana is under a winter storm warning through Friday night. Temperatures are forecast to fall to 18 below in Billings on Friday night with wind chill values as low as 30 below. Wind chills are forecast to fall to 35 below in Helena and nearly 40 below in Great Falls.
