PITTSBURGH (AP) - Snow and bitter cold are causing problems in parts of Pennsylvania.

A winter weather advisory is in effect Thursday for the western part of the state and a lake effect snow advisory is in effect for the north central mountains. Forecasters say 2 to 6 inches of snow are possible.

Many schools have closed or have delayed opening. Pennsylvania’s Transportation Department is reminding motorists to slow down.

As many as 3,000 homes and businesses are facing the bitter cold without electricity in the Allegheny County town of Pitcairn after three transformers exploded and power lines came down.
